Procedure:
By tightening the muscles, redraping and lifting the skin,
and then removing excess fat, a facelift provide a patient
with a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance. Most facelift
patients have noticed wrinkling of the face and neck, a constant
fatigued appearance, and find that their face and neck muscles
lack the definition they once had.
A facelift can be customized to fit each
patient’s features and needs, and for a more enhanced
result, can often be combined with other facial plastic surgery
procedures. Complimentary procedures include a forehead or
brow lift, a rhinoplasty, a neck or chin lift, or a blepharoplasty.
Length of Procedure:
Generally at least 2 hours, but it can depend on the extensiveness
of the procedure
Anesthesia:
Usually local or general anesthesia. The final method of choice
can depend on the patient’s preference for comfort and
the safety recommendations of the surgeon and anesthesiologist.
Cost: $6000-$10,000
Risks:
Actually considered a very safe procedure, but some potential
risks can include temporary numbness or infection.
Recovery:
Advisable to stay out of the sun for several weeks after the
surgery.
Back to work: about 2 weeks
Strenuous activity: 2-3 weeks
Final appearance: Within 4-6 weeks, potential for improvement
continues for several months
Duration of results:
Gravity and aging can always take affect again, so it may
be desirable to repeat the procedure, but it should be a matter
of around 10 years before this becomes a possibility. Of course,
the results of your facelift will make that decade or so of
aging much easier to bear than if you had never treated the
situation in the first place.
